After meeting our muleteers and support team, we begin our hike along a gently descending trail with breathtaking views of the Apurímac River canyon and the distant snow-capped peaks of the Vilcabamba range. After lunch at Capuliyoc viewpoint (2,915 m / 9,564 ft), we descend into the canyon, passing through dry mountain vegetation and local farms until we reach Chiquisqa (1,950 m / 6,397 ft), where we camp for the night.
Day 2: Chiquisqa – Santa Rosa – Marampata
After breakfast, we begin an intense descent to the Apurímac River (Playa Rosalina, 1,550 m / 5,085 ft), then cross the bridge and start a steep uphill climb to Santa Rosa. We rest and continue the ascent toward Marampata (2,900 m / 9,514 ft), arriving in time for a delicious lunch. This peaceful village offers incredible views of Choquequirao from a distance. After a picnic lunch, we return to Marampata to relax and enjoy our second night in the tranquil Andes.
Day 4: Marampata – Chiquisqa
We begin our descent back through the canyon, retracing our steps down the steep path to Santa Rosa and then back across the Apurímac River. After a short rest, we continue uphill to reach Chiquisqa for our final night of camping. Along the way, keep an eye out for Andean condors, hummingbirds, and other local wildlife
Day 5: Chiquisqa – Capuliyoc – Cusco
After breakfast, we make the final uphill push to Capuliyoc (2,915 m / 9,564 ft), where we’ll say goodbye to our trekking crew and enjoy a last panoramic view of the Apurímac canyon.
